This guide explains how to manually select the network type (3G/4G/5G) on a Samsung Android phone. “Auto” selection is default, but manual operation may be necessary if automatic connection fails, especially abroad.
Why It Matters
- Auto-selection fails – common in foreign roaming
- Control over network type, e.g. choosing 4G/5G manually
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Open Settings
Launch the Settings app. - Connections
Tap on Connections. - Mobile networks
Go to Mobile networks. - Disable Auto-Select
Turn off Select automatically. - Manual Search & Selection
The phone will search for available networks. Choose the desired network manually (3G/4G/5G).
Helpful Tips
- Cannot switch networks during a call — the call will be disconnected.
- In Iceland, auto-connect should suffice, but manual selection is useful abroad.
- If issues persist:
- Try resetting network settings
- Verify APN settings
