This guide shows you how to forward a TCP/UDP port on Nova’s Huawei 4.5G/5G router line. Port forwarding is often required for game consoles, CCTV-DVRs or home servers that must be reachable from the public Internet.
Why this matters
- Enables external access to devices on your LAN.
- Fixes Strict NAT issues in many online games.
- Required for certain IoT or smart-home equipment.
Materials needed
- Nova 4.5G/5G router (Huawei H112-372, B818-263 etc.).
- Port number & protocol to open (e.g. TCP 32400).
- Static (public) IP from Nova (ISK 490 / month).
- Optional: reserved internal IP for the target device.
Step 1: Log in to the router
- On a device connected to the router, browse to 192.168.8.1.
- Username: admin.
- Password: your Wi-Fi key (or admin if unchanged).
Step 2: Navigate to Port Forwarding
- Click Advanced in the top bar.
- Go to Security ▸ Virtual Server in the left pane.
- Press + to add a new rule.
Step 3: Create the rule
Field | Value | Example |
---|---|---|
Name | Friendly rule name | Plex |
Protocol | TCP, UDP, or TCP/UDP | TCP |
WAN Port | External port | 32400 |
Device / LAN IP | Select device or type address | 192.168.8.100 |
LAN Port | Usually same as WAN | 32400 |
Click Save to apply.
Step 4: Test & troubleshoot
- Disconnect from Wi-Fi and test the port over mobile data (e.g. canyouseeme.org).
- If the port is closed:
- Make sure static IP service is active.
- Ensure the device has a fixed internal IP.
- Verify the rule is Enabled and firewall is on.
Summary
Log in → Advanced ▸ Security ▸ Virtual Server → Add rule → Save → Test.
Without a static public IP, inbound traffic will not reach you due to CG-NAT.
Additional information
Warning: Opening ports exposes services to the Internet. Keep firmware updated and use strong credentials.
