This guide will help you connect your router to the fiber optic box, whether you're setting up a new router, replacing your current one, or moving to a new address.
Why is proper router connection important?
A proper setup ensures a stable and fast internet connection throughout your home. Incorrect installation can cause connectivity issues or unstable network performance.
What you’ll need
- Fiber optic box with an active LAN1 port
- Router (Nova router or your own device)
- Ethernet cable
- Power source for your router
Step 1: Connect the Ethernet cable to the fiber box
- Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into the LAN1 port on the fiber optic box.
Step 2: Connect the Ethernet cable to your router
- Nova router: Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the port labeled “1–2.5GE” on your Nova router. All ports on Nova routers can act as WAN ports, but we recommend using the 1–2.5GE port for optimal performance.
- Your own router: Plug the Ethernet cable into the WAN port. The name of the WAN port may vary by router model, so check your router’s manual if needed.
Step 3: Power on the devices
- Plug in your router and turn it on.
- Wait up to 1 minute for the router to establish a network connection. Indicator lights will show the connection status.
Step 4: Restart devices
- Restart both the router and the fiber optic box to ensure a proper connection.
Step 5: Connect your devices to the network
- Connect your devices to the Wi-Fi network using the network name (SSID) and password listed on the sticker on your router.
- If you’ve changed these credentials previously, use the updated information.
Summary
- Connect the Ethernet cable from the LAN1 port on the fiber box to the WAN port on your router.
- Turn on the router and wait for it to establish a connection.
- Restart the router, the fiber box, and all connected devices.
- Connect devices to Wi-Fi using the correct credentials.
