Where is the best place to put eero?

Proper eero placement is important for fast and reliable WiFi throughout your home. Good placement helps reduce dead zones, improve coverage, and create a more stable connection for all your devices. eero uses mesh and TrueMesh technology to optimize coverage automatically.

1. Place the main eero in a central, open location

Your main eero should ideally be:

  • near the center of the home
  • in an open space
  • not inside a cabinet
  • not behind a TV
  • not placed on the floor

Best placement is:

  • on a shelf or table
  • around waist or chest height
  • in a well-ventilated area

2. Avoid interference

WiFi signals can be weakened by:

  • concrete walls
  • metal
  • mirrors
  • utility cabinets
  • electronics like microwaves

If possible:

  • keep eero away from large electronics
  • avoid closed cabinets or tight spaces

3. Keep a reasonable distance between eeros

If you have multiple eeros:

  • place them close enough to maintain a strong connection
  • avoid placing them too far apart
  • in larger homes, one eero per floor often works well

Mesh systems work best when each eero maintains a strong connection to the next one.

4. Think about where you use WiFi most

Place eeros closer to:

  • home offices
  • TV and streaming areas
  • gaming setups
  • areas with weak signal

If you need coverage in:

  • basements
  • garages
  • outdoor areas

...you may benefit from an additional eero device.

5. Start small and expand if needed

Many homes work well with:

  • 1 eero in smaller apartments
  • 2–3 eeros in medium-sized homes
  • more devices in large or multi-story homes

The number of eeros needed depends on:

  • home size
  • building materials
  • number of connected devices
  • internet usage habits

Common placement mistakes

Avoid placing eero:

  • inside TV cabinets
  • behind TVs
  • inside electrical cabinets
  • in far corners of the home
  • directly on the floor
  • next to large metal objects

FAQ

Can I place eero inside a cabinet?

It’s not recommended. Closed cabinets can reduce WiFi performance and airflow.

Does eero work across multiple floors?

Yes. In multi-story homes, placing one eero on each floor often provides the best coverage.

How do I know if I need more eeros?

If you experience:

  • slow WiFi
  • dropped connections
  • weak signal in certain rooms

...adding another eero may help improve coverage.
