Advanced Security / Active Threat Protection

Ad Blocking

Ad Blocking helps block many ads and trackers before they load on your devices.

Please note that no ad blocker blocks every ad. Some ads may still appear, especially inside certain apps or streaming services.

Content Filters

You can use Content Filters to:

block certain content categories
limit access to specific apps or services
allow or block specific websites

Block Apps

With Block Apps, you can block access to selected apps or services on specific devices or profiles.

This works best when devices are grouped into Profiles, such as “Kids”, “Game consoles”, or “Home office”.

Block and Allow Websites

This feature lets you control access to specific websites.

You can:

block a specific website
allow a website that may otherwise be filtered
apply the setting to selected devices or profiles

This is useful when you want more precise control than general content categories provide.

Activity History

Activity History shows an overview of activity on your network.

You can see information such as:

which devices use the most data
activity by device or profile
security scans or blocked activity, if security features are enabled

This can help you understand how your home network is being used. For example, if the internet feels slow, you can check whether one device is using unusually high amounts of data.

Internet Backup / Hotspot Backup

Internet Backup can help keep your eero network online if your main internet connection goes down.

eero can use a backup connection, such as:

a phone hotspot
another wireless connection that has been set up as backup

This can be useful if you work from home, use smart home devices that need a stable connection, or want a backup option if your fibre connection drops.

The speed and stability will depend on the backup connection being used.

DDNS

DDNS stands for Dynamic DNS. This is a more advanced setting and is mainly for users who need to access their home network from outside the home.

Most customers do not need to change this setting.

Some features require eero Plus or eero Secure. Availability can also depend on your app version, eero equipment, and the service you have with Nova.

Does Ad Blocking block all ads?

No. It blocks many ads and trackers, but some ads may still appear, especially inside certain apps or services.

Are Content Filters the same as turning off the internet?

No. Content Filters block or allow certain types of content. To temporarily stop internet access for a device or profile, use Pause or Schedules in the eero app.

Do I need DDNS?

Probably not. DDNS is mainly for users who need remote access to specific devices or services at home.
