What is eero Hotspot Backup?

eero Hotspot Backup is a backup connection for your internet if your main connection goes down.

It allows your eero network to connect to another wireless internet connection, such as a mobile hotspot, and keep your WiFi network running while there is an outage or issue with your main connection.

This can be useful if you need to stay connected for work, video calls, smart home devices, or anything else that should not lose connection completely.

How does it work?

Normally, eero uses your main Nova internet connection.

If that connection goes down, eero can switch to a backup connection that you have already set up, for example:

• a mobile hotspot
• another WiFi network
• a backup network available at the location

When the main connection comes back online, eero will switch back to using it.

What should I keep in mind?

Hotspot Backup is not the same as a regular fibre or fixed internet connection. It uses the connection you choose as your backup.

This means that:

• speeds may be slower than usual
• data usage may depend on your mobile plan or backup network
• streaming, large downloads, and gaming may not work as well as on your main connection
• connection quality depends on the location and signal strength of the backup connection

How do I set up Hotspot Backup?

1. Open the eero app.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Select Internet Backup or Backup Internet.
4. Choose the WiFi network or hotspot you want to use as your backup connection.
5. Enter the password if needed.
6. Save the settings.

Menu names may vary slightly depending on the version of the app.

When does eero use the backup connection?

eero uses the backup connection when your main connection goes down and the backup network you selected is available.

This means you should make sure the hotspot or backup network is active when you need it.
