Start by opening up the NOVA app on your phone to make sure you have all the settings for your phone number correct when travelling. You need to make sure you have it open for usage abroad. You can also drop us a line on our online chat at nova.is and we can work it out with you!
Open the NOVA app on your smartphone:
Go to services - mobile phone - choose the correct phone number - settings
You need to have Notkun erlendis, Net í útlöndum and Sms tilkynning turned on. If you're in the AlltSaman package you also need to have Leyfa aukakostnað turned on in the app.
If your number is unregistered (not registered to a social security number - kennitala), it will not work abroad. Then you need to contact us via our online chat and register your number to your social security number for it to work abroad.

Problems abroad - Iphone
1. Turn on mobile data
To turn on mobile data you need to go to settings - mobile data - and turn on mobile data. You can also drag this window down from the upper right corner and make this symbol green by pressing it.
2. Turn on data roaming
Settings:
Select Mobile data and select your number (if you have an e-sim), click on Data Roaming and make sure that the tick is on, green:
3. Network Selection
In the same window as seen above, choose Network Selection and make sure automatic is turned on and green. If the phone isn't connecting to a carrier by itself, then it can work to turn automatic off and connect it to a carrier by hand.
4. Restart the phone
When you land abroad, you often need to restart the phone. Turn off airplane mode, have mobile data, data roaming and automatic turned on and restart the device.

Problems abroad - Samsung/Android
1. Turn on mobile data
Go to settings - connections - data usage - mobile data (turn on)
2. Turn data roaming on
Go to settings - connections - mobile networks - data roaming (turn on)
3. Automatic carrier
Go to settings - connections - mobile networks - network operator and turn automatic on. Sometimes, if the phone isn't connected automatically to a carrier, you need to turn automatic on and choose the carrier by hand.
If you are abroad, you might need to restart the phone now with airplane mode turned off. Make sure mobile data, data roaming and automatic is turned on before you restart it.
