VoWiFi is a technology that is available in most mobile phones from Samsung and Apple and uses a WiFi connection to expand Nova's service area.

The main situations in which this technology is useful are:

- Establishes a mobile connection where there is a bad traditional mobile connection but fine WiFi.  Basements, equipment rooms, rural areas, farms, fishing boats, etc.

Why don't I just use WhatsApp, Messenger or FaceTime to call these places?

VoWiFi simplifies the matter and you call from your number to a number as if you were making a normal call. This also opens up many other exciting possibilities:

- Establishes a mobile connection on board ships where there is WiFi, many ships receive internet via satellite and broadcast WiFi indoors.
- Establishes a mobile connection in airplanes where there is WiFi.
- Establishes a mobile over WiFi abroad, where the general 2G/3G/4G/5G mobile connection is often much worse than in Iceland.

- This also allows you to send an SMS in these situations.

With the presence of VoLTE/4G, the call can be automatically transferred between systems without interruption. When VoLTE/4G is not available when leaving WiFi area , the call ends.

E.g. when you take a call over WiFi in the living room at home and run out to the car and switch diretly into 4G without interruption.

VoWiFi abroad.

When people are abroad, we always recommend calling via WhatsApp, Messenger or FaceTime. It is possible to call to and from abroad with these alternatives and it is by far the best deal!

For those who want or need to make calls the good old fashioned way, calls over VoWiFi are charged the same as traditional calls according to Nova price list.
