Transfer contacts from SIM card to iPhone – How-to guide

This guide shows you how to import contacts stored on a SIM card into your iPhone. This can be useful if you are switching devices or want to ensure your contacts are stored safely on your iPhone and in iCloud.

Why this is important

By moving your contacts from the SIM card to your iPhone, you ensure they won’t be lost if the SIM card is damaged or replaced. Once on your iPhone, contacts can be synced with iCloud or other services.

What you need

  • An iPhone running iOS

  • A SIM card with the contacts you want to import

Step 1: Open Settings

Go to Settings on your iPhone.

Step 2: Access Contacts

Scroll down and tap Contacts.

Step 3: Import contacts

Tap Import SIM Contacts.
You can then choose where the contacts should be stored (e.g., in iCloud or on your iPhone).

Summary

To import contacts from your SIM card, go to Settings > Contacts > Import SIM Contacts. This ensures your contacts are securely saved on your iPhone and synced to the cloud.

Next steps

  • Verify your contacts have synced with iCloud by checking iCloud.com.

  • Consider regular backups to prevent data loss.

Additional information

  • It is not possible to export contacts from an iPhone back to a SIM card. Apple only allows importing into the device.

  • To move contacts to another device, use iCloud or AirDrop.
